Visually impaired divisions will compete at the World Archery Para Championships in Donaueschingen later this year for the first time since 2009. Archers from three countries are already registered to shoot in VI1 and VI2/3 categories, with classification by officials from the International Blind Sports Association taking place before the event. In the VI1 category, competitors shoot in a blindfold or black-out glasses, while in the VI2/3 category archers can use tactile sights and can have an assistant one metre behind the shooting line to relay information about arrow location, safety, and scoring.
World Archery hopes that by bringing visually impaired categories into World Championship competition the discipline will gain wider recognition in member federations.
