The 70 metre Internet Archery League is designed to enable individuals and teams of archers to judge how they are progressing, both locally and internationally. Recurve, compound, longbow and barebow archers are supported, as are individuals and teams of three.
Archers shoot six 70 metre rounds for a team, and a best of three from six rounds for the individual competition. The competition runs from 1 January until 30 September each year.
Each team nominates a Records Officer who enters team, archer and score data. The ‘cloud’ software operates behind the scenes to calculate the best-of-three rounds, rankings and so on. As soon as a score is entered, the database updates everything in the blink of an eye. If there are any problems, the Records Officer is able to contact the organisers by email, but such incidents are very rare.
This is the first year the 70 metre of Bow International. Previously it was run as The Glade 70 metre League, but as The Glade has now been incorporated into Bow International, all concerned believed that it would be a good idea to change the name of the competition.
Once again, the league has operated
flawlessly throughout 2012. Numbers are slightly down on 2011, but the number of international competitors has actually increased, with teams from British Columbia in Canada, the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand and Aksaray in Turkey taking part. Indeed, this is exactly what we want. There must be many clubs around the world who feel somewhat cut off from other clubs and have to travel a long way to get to tournaments – and that’s where we come in. The website has had more than 35,000 unique visitors in 2012, so there are lots of people, presumably most archers, who are looking at it, but not entering scores.
Congratulations go to Derbyshire Archery Club members Andy Mortimore, Jim Burgess and Ray Lunn who took the Recurve Team Award, and to Chippenham Archers members Pauline Burfitt, Dave Jones and Ian Kidd who took the Compound Team Award. All of the Team and Individual winners will be receiving certificates in the post over the next few weeks.
