British archers have secured another spot at the Rio 216 Paralympic Games at a Continental Qualifying Tournament held during the European Para-Archery Championships in France. Nathan MacQueen won the silver medal – and a quota place – in men’s compound. The team also finished second overall in the medal tables for the event, with three gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
In the Championships, mixed team Jo Frith and John Walker beat Russia to gold 140-121, while the recurve women’s team of Amanda George, Hazel Chaisty and Tania Nadarajah won the bronze match against Italy 6-2.
In the W1 open category, Great Britain took a clean sweep of the medals, with Jo Frith taking gold ahead of Jess Stretton, with Vicky Jenkins picking up bronze. Steve Prowse won gold in the visually impaired 2/3
competition class.
Mike Peart, Archery GB’s Paralympic coach, said, “There was a fantastic level of shooting overall at the tournament and it is testament to both the team and individual medalists that they saw off the competition and secured a great medal haul, especially in such challenging weather conditions.
“We hope to build on everything that we’ve learned during the tournament and use this to hone the team’s skills in the build-up to Rio.”
The additional place won takes the number of quota spots for Great Britain in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games up to 10.
