Great Britain’s number one-ranked recurve archer Naomi Folkard has broken the British record for the FITA (1440) round, shooting a score of 1356. The score is the first shot by a British woman that has broken the 1350 barrier, and was achieved at the Stephanie Hall Memorial FITA Star at Meriden Archery Club on Monday 26 May. The distance scores that made up the record-breaking effort were 330, 342, 340 and 344, with the score of 340 at 50m also breaking the record for that distance.
Naomi had previously shot the national record of 1330 for the same round at Andover in 2000, which at the time was the highest women’s recurve FITA shot in the UK, and it stood as the highest FITA shot on home turf by a British archer until Becky Martin shot 1341 at Meriden in the September of 2013. Alison Williamson enjoyed great success during her career, which FITA-wise peaked at 1347 at the 2003 World Championships in New York, however, she never repeated the success on British soil.
Congratulations Naomi, from everyone on the Bow team!
